Skills - Capital Letters

Use capital letters whenever they are necessary in the following sentences. Rewrite the sentences on a piece of paper, or print out the assignment and underline the words that should be capitalized.

 

1. most of the settlers along the atlantic ocean came from england.

2. the settlement of jamestown was named for king james of england.
3. this town was built on the james river in virginia.
4. have you ever heard of the man named john smith?
5. he was a wise leader at jamestown.
6. another group of english people sailed to america on the "mayflower."
7. it took many weeks for their ship to cross the atlantic ocean.
8. on the "mayflower" there was about a hundred men and women from england.
9. these english people came to america to worship god in their own way.
10. they built the town of plymouth.

11. the town of plymouth became a part of massachusetts.

12. the settlers of plymouth chose john carver as their leader.

13. what a lonely christmas they had the first year!

14. how they longed to see the friends they had left in europe!

15. the cold winter months at plymouth brought much suffering.
16. in the spring it became warm enough to start planting crops.
17. the next fall the settlers celebrated their first thanksgiving.
18. a group of people came from england to america in 1587.
19. they settled on roanoke island, near north carolina.
20. a little girl named virginia dare was born.
21. she was the first english child born in america.
22. but the settlement at roanoke did not last.
23. no one knows what happened to those english people.
