Skills - Recognizing Sentences

A sentence is a group of words which expresses a complete thought. A group of words which does not express a complete thought is not a sentence.

My dog ran around the block. (This is a sentence.)

Around the block. (This is not a sentence.)

Put Yes in front of the groups of words which are sentences.
Put No in front of the groups of words which are NOT sentences.
The end marks are not shown to make it more challenging.

____1. Many people have baking soda in their homes
____2. Also a bottle of weak acid called vinegar

____3. Can do something strange with soda and vinegar

____4. A tablespoon of soda in the bottom of a glass
____5. Then you should pour the vinegar over the soda
____6. What do you think happens to the soda
____7. Changes to something else
____8. The mixture bubbles and looks as if it is boiling
____9. Is making a new gas
____10. Now hold a burning match over the top of the glass
____11. Will quit burning
____12. Why does the match go out
____13. The gas from the soda and vinegar rises to the match
____14. An odorless, colorless gas called carbon dioxide
____15. Carbon dioxide keeps oxygen from the match
____16. Cannot burn without oxygen
____17. Oh, how quickly carbon dioxide puts out fires
____18. A mixture of soda and vinegar
