Plural Nouns Lesson 001

Skills - Making Nouns Plural

To make most nouns plural, just add an "s" at the end.
Example: cat becomes cats

If a noun ends in -ch, -sh, -s, -x, or -z, add "es" at the end.
Example: church becomes churches

If a noun ends in "y" and there is a consonant before the "y", change the "y" to "i" and add "es."
Example: family becomes families

If a noun ends in "y" and there is a vowel before the "y" just add "s."
Example: holiday becomes holidays

If a noun ends in "f" or "fe" change the "f" or "fe" to "ves."
Example: knife becomes knives
The exceptions to this rule are: roof, hoof, chief, belief. Just add "s" to these four words.
