Australia - The Island Continent

Animals   Land and Climate   The People   Sports   Fast Facts

Australia is a continent located in the Southern Hemisphere between Antarctica and Indonesia. That is in the bottom half of the world. Australia is sometimes called "the land down under."

Australia is the flattest and driest inhabited continent in the world. The Australian continent and the island of Tasmania form the 6th largest country on earth. About 19 million people live in Australia. That may seem like a lot of people, but actually, for the huge size, that is not very many.
