The Cape of Good Hope |
The Cape of Good Hope is on the Atlantic coast of South Africa. While it is possibly the best-known of the southern African capes, it is not actually the southernmost point of the continent. This honor goes to Cape Agulhas which is about 90 miles further south. Before the Panama Canal was built, ships had to go around Africa to reach Asia and what is now the western United States. A legend says a ghost ship called The Flying Dutchman sails the waters near The Cape of Good Hope. |
