A salt water marsh

A marsh is a type of freshwater, brackish water (a little salty) or saltwater wetland that is found along rivers, ponds, lakes and coasts.

You see a lot of grasses, reeds, cat tails, and other low plants in marshy areas. In a swamp, you would see more trees.

Often you find marshes in connection with estuaries. The bottom of a marsh is usually very muddy. The marsh is a place where you find many different plants and animals.

A fresh water marsh

Marshes usually have shallow water. Be sure to take your high boots when you explore a marsh.
