A peak is a
top of a mountain.

Erosion (wind, rain, sun breaking down the earth) wears down the rock on mountains. When this happens to a top of a mountain, it usually leaves jagged rock with steep cliffs. This is what we think of when we use the landform term - peak. | |
|
|
Many times the top of peaks is covered with
snow and ice. This is because they usually are located at a high altitude.
They could also be located towards one of the poles. |
