is a body of land nearly surrounded by water.

There are several well-known peninsulas on earth. One that comes to mind is the state of Florida in the United States. (shown to the left) |

Another is the southern part of the country of India. (That isn't India to the left.) |

The country of Spain and Portugal are located on a large peninsula called the Iberian Peninsula. (photo to left) |
