A plain is an area of flat land with few trees.

A plain can be a very good place for a farm. Some plains are formed by a river that brings down dirt from the mountains and deposits it. This takes a very long time to occur.

Many plains are located at a low altitude - meaning close to sea level. The Atlantic Coastal Plain is on the east coast of the United States. It is about 2200 miles long. It is shown in green here on the map of the United States.
