A river basin is all the land that is drained by a river and its tributaries.

A river basin includes the steams and rivers that carry the water and the land from where the water comes from.

The river basin acts like a funnel. It collects the water and channels it into the waterway.

Notice in the drawing here how there is high land on both sides. The water comes down from the mountain sides and finally ends up in the main river at the lowest point in the basin. The main river will empy into a lake or the ocean.
