A valley is an area of low land between hills or mountains.
 

Some valleys are created by the flow of glaciers long ago. However, most valleys are formed by rivers.

 
The Sacramento Valley and the San Joaquin Valley in central California is very, very large. It is an important farming area for the nation of the United States.
